Nelson Bay Bridge Club Inc. began in July 1975 after a public meeting was called by Dolly Gocher to see if any interest was shown in forming a bridge club. 29 people attended that meeting and hence the Nelson Bay Bridge Club was formed. Several of the original members are still playing today. Play commenced at the Community Care Centre with an average of 3-4 tables once a week until 1982 when we then moved to the Nelson Bay Bowling & Recreation Club. In January 2009 we moved to the hall, at the rear of the Baptist Church, 19 Government Road, Nelson Bay.
Affiliation with the Australian Bridge Federation (ABF) began in 1987. We now have a membership of 126 players, average 12 tables on Monday afternoons, 14-15 tables on Wednesday afternoons and 5-8 tables on Friday evenings. We have 3 Life Members, 1 of whom are still playing regularly at the Club.
